Ha! I just listened to that Scarlet>Victim>Fire for the first time the other day (how i hadn't gotten to it I don't know) and TOTALLY agree. Not among the standard transitions, and though a touch rough at a few moments, it's really great.

It may get on my radio show in August.

Someone already mentioned St Steve> Eleven I've got a soft spot from some of those NFA> Stephen reprise transitions, especially the ones uninterrupted by drum solos. 2/4/70? 2/8/70? Awesome. Or for another example of a very different but equally impressive Stephen> NFA transition try 9/30/76. They weave together St Steve and NFA with an extended bit of sweet jamming that produces a fired-up version of NFA. Oh, and I feel like I just mentioned this somewhere else, but one of the best transition segments ever, imo - Playin> Shakedown> World To Give> Playin, 11/20/78 And another obvious one - 6/24/70 - NFA> Easy Wind A final edit to mention this little gem - St Stephen> It's a Sin> St Stephen, 4/23/69

As far as a true blending transitions, I always loved the way they made these 74 co figs work. No shortcuts here.

Space>The Wheel
The Wheel itself is usually a letdown once they start singing; but the transition itself is often the best part of an '80s show.

Also, Dark Star>Sugar Magnolia.
Not done very often; but when it was, like 10/31/71 or 4/8/72, it's mind-boggling.

I have always enjoyed many of the 68 Alligator->jam->Drums-> Alligator, or maybe it goes drums->jam but you get my point and the 68-69 DS->St. Stephen->The Eleven, someone brought that up in an earlier post but they are tasty!

China> Rider may be too obvious, but it is almost always good. The Help On The Way sequence is a personal favorite. Dark Star> St. Stephen> The Eleven may be the best. For something a little differnt try the Space> Not Fade Away from 12-13-80. http://www.archive.org/details/gd1980-12-13.nak300.walker-scotton.miller.88964.sbeok.flac16 How could I forget Scarlet> Fire!?

I have to agree with the DS->St S->Eleven for an always satisfying "suite". Over the years (I wish I was one of those 40 year olds living in my parent's basement, but many years past that age), The Eleven has really caught my attention more and more. It really puts a cap on the DS->SS combination in a rockin' way.

The Eleven has really grown on me, too, over about 35 years; there are loads of great transitions out of St Stephen into The Eleven.

Other transitions:
China > Rider as many have mentioned, probably top of my list;
Not Fade Away > GDTRFB > Not Fade Away;
Estimated > Eyes.

Regarding other bands,Umphrey's McGee also come to mind. I thoroughly recommend their "Jimmy Stewart: The Album" which you can buy via livedownloads:

Dark Star>Eyes of the World>China Doll, with 2-15-73 being my personal favorite.

6/18/74 has one of the most incredible transitions of all time: Weather Report Suite>The Other One>It's a Sin jam

and of course i have to mention this gorgeous super rarity:

Cryptical Envelopment>Clementine

Since nobody's mentioned it yet:

Dew->UJB Reprise (especially 11-17-73). The transition in question is short but chill- and/or tear-inducing.

IMHO, the sweetest of the spectacular Playing->UJB->Dew->UJB->Playing sequences they only did 3 or 4 times.
